Malia lies about 20 miles from the airport of Heraklion and was once an old fishing village. Olive and banana trees stretch almost to the sea front where you will find one of the best beaches on crete island. Nearly 3 miles long, the golden sand plays host to a variety of water sports, but for it's size, it still gets quite packed during the high season, which tells you the amount of people that visit this area every year. Every kind of accommodation can be found here from simple studios to high class hotels, and with more than enough shops, offering a range of goods to suit every pocket, you'll always find something to spend on. At night, the endless supply of bars, discos and pubs that lead to the sea front, will ensure there's never a dull moment in Malia resort.

I went to Malia with an open mind after reading reviews on it, some said it was great, others said it was very busy. Malia was in fact very busy and very noisy! Not the best place for couples, even though we stayed outside of the main strip and more towards the old town it was still very disruptive, people coming home at 5am, 6am making noise!
The only restaurant which the food is really good is the Royal Oak. Great service and excellent food.
Wouldnt recommend the resort though if your looking for relaxation and peace!!! Review based on a trip in June 2006

Summer 2006 was the best ever!! My freind and i stayed at the maria rousse hotel and it was fantastic, the staff were very friendly and always willing to help. This was my first holiday and i wont forget it. Anyone wanting to go to malia stay in the maria rousse. Your only 2 minutes away from the main strip and thats when its time to party. Be carefull of the pr's though they will get on your nerves lol. And the beach is only down the road. What more could you want. Anyway if you do end up going to malia, go in the yasou bar and tell george and alex i said hi. xx Review based on a trip in May 2006
