The Weather in Malia in CRETE - Greece
If you’ve heard of Malia chances have it you may have already developed in opinion on what goes on on this infamous party island- thanks to a British documentary about the popular holiday spot which painted Malia as nothing more than a party spot for drunken British youths. Malia and its 300 days of sunshine enjoys one of the healthiest weather in Europe. Being in the most southern of Greek Islands, Crete and Malia enjoy plenty of sunshine and the longest of all the summer seasons in the region, lasting from April to October. With its temperate Mediterranean weather, Malia sees hot dry summers, and mild winters, and remains a popular destination all year round. During the summer months (June, July, August), temperatures in Malia should be expected to reach 35 degrees celsius (or 95 degrees farhrenheit). You should pack strong sun protection if needs be and plan to stay out of the sun during the peak hours (12pm to 3pm). The best time to visit Malia and enjoy the excellent weather is early spring and late summer/autumn. |
One of the benefits of being a Mediterranean holiday resort is plentiful sunshine throughout the year, and Malia, Crete is no exception. In fact, Malia epitomizes the ideal weather of the region with sunny days and fine temperatures almost every day. Extremes of temperatures are rare, meaning Malia has something to offer every month of the year. The days of September and October weather in Malia still sunny and the water warm enough for comfortable swimming in Malia beaches. Basically, it's still summer. December and January are the months of Mediterranean winter, the weather bringing the possibility of rain, but still an average of six hours of bright sunshine a day. This is the time of year when smaller Mediterranean destinations shut down for the season, but not so Malia.
The first orchids bloom in January in Malia Crete, and by mid-February the countryside is already alive with fresh green meadows and almond trees in bloom. March days can still be cool (daytime temperatures around 19C or 65F, 9C or 40F at night) but steadily moderate. Early spring is a wonderful time to visit to this holiday destination, with pleasant daytime temperatures and Malia weather conditions and many of the ancient ruins around Malia and Crete island framed by a carpet of red anemones and other wildflowers |
